Baoli Collection

Inspired by an ancient architectural structure, the stepwells of India. Stepwells, Baoli, provided water for drinking, washing, bathing, and the irrigation of crops. They also served as cool sanctuaries for caravans, pilgrims, and other travellers during the heat of day or overnight. Stepwells were excavated several stories underground by incorporated steps, in order to reach water. Descending down a Baoli is an almost spiritual sensation. Sweltering heat turns to an enveloping cool, the noise above ground becomes hushed. One can tell neither the depth nor the length of the structure, like entering an optical illusion.
